Fantastic place to get a good piece of chicken. Had multiple entrees and not single one disappointed me. The chicken is good by itself, BBQ, or with the hot sauce. The cobbler was amazing as well. Will be making it back here more often. Though country music is not my style it definitely fits the ambiance.

We went one of the first nights it was open and is hands down my favorite new chicken restaurant. I have never seen my kids clear their plates when out to eat, they LOVED everything on their plate. The chicken was done perfectly and the Mac and cheese was amazing. We did a catering order last week and cannot stop thinking about the Laredo chicken sandwich! My mouth is watering writing this review. Not only is it wonderful food served quickly, but the staff always has a smile on their face and I can tell they have great management. Thank you cowboy chicken for coming to Ankeny!

Our first experience tonight did not go as anticipated. I went with my son and we each ordered chicken entrees with 2 sides. We got our drinks, put our number on display as requested and watched for 30" as everyone around us was served. I went to the register and asked for our order to be checked on, told him it had been 30" and was told it showed our order had been served! I showed him the number still displayed and the empty table that made it obvious we had received no food. He checked further and told me from behind the counter and across the room (as I was sitting again) it would be remade. At the 45" mark our food was brought out without apology. If I could figure out how to share a pic of the cold, over cooked fries we were served, I would. They were so dark and dried out they crunched, and not in a good way! I went to the server, showed her the fries, and asked for fresh which she was very pleasant about getting. She updated us when they dropped a new basket and brought a card for a free cobbler next visit. The chicken was fall off the bone moist with a good flavor, but it didn't make up for the wait time, cold sides, or lack of acknowledgement for missing our order. I expected someone to apologize for the error made in getting our food 45" after ordering but not a word was said. It wasn't until I asked for fresh fries that we received a card for cobbler that we probably won't use because both of us agree, there probably won't be a next time!

Flavor of food is great. Options are great. BUT.....food is served cold. We went as a group of 6 and we all ordered something different, everything was room temp to cold. I would definitely re-visit but I will most definitely ask for HOT food. As for space, this is a small place. Nice atmosphere in the back by the rotisserie oven, feels like long john silvers in the front. A couple tables are very uncomfortable because the counter line stands over the guests that sit there, so people are gawking and coughing over the guests and food. Not a good place for groups or children.

Went looking forward to eating at Cowboy Chicken for the first time since I read their online menu. Arrived at 6:45. The enchiladas were good. Nice, friendly, but overworked staff. Just not enough of them. Food took a very long time. Just before the food was served, we were told they were out of twice baked potatoes so we made another selection. Went to get silverware and there were only knives, so I had to go to the counter to ask for three forks. Our friend was not served the peach cobbler with the rest of his meal, so when he finished he reminded them. They were then out of peach, but promptly served apple. Had originally figured we would come back another time to try the chicken, but wouldn't be surprised to find out 45 minutes later they would be out of that and something else too. Maybe just a bad evening, but it will be be a long time before we try it again. Maybe they will figure out how to manage it better by then.
