I wish this was the end to my experience, but then around 9:30 pm I received a knock on my door for "room service." I didn't order room service and had no reason why they would be knocking. A few minutes later I received a call from the hotel clerk. When I answered the phone she explained that "they had forgot to have me fill out more paperwork and needed me to come back downstairs." I then replied " I am half asleep and in my nightgown... so no I am not going downstairs and you'll have to catch me tomorrow." I had stayed at several country inn and suites but not often at this location. I am familiar with the paperwork needing to be filled out and had no idea what additional paperwork was necessary to complete. All of this being said, I would not recommend staying at this location because the service was very poor and inconsiderate. Management may need to review who they hire so this does not occur again.
The customer service here is amazing. So when I was checking in, I used my military ID cause it was all I had, and the lady at the front desk said she was sorry that she couldn't give us a discount since it was during the State Fair. I said it was fine, but a half hour late I get a call saying she pulled some strings and got me the discount. On top of that, the room was in immaculate condition and the breakfast they served was pretty good (for it being complimentary.) I will always choose this hotel when I come to Des Moines.
Generally I am a big fan of country inn and suites hotels. I have stayed at this location only once before and the experience was overall pleasant. However, during a recent stay, the two clerks at the desk seemed to take a decent amount of time checking myself and a coworker in. After receiving the keys to our rooms, we had both went to our seperate rooms to drop our luggage off and unwind before dinner. A few minutes later, my coworker knocked on my hotel room. I answered after realizing it was him wondering why he still had his luggage with him. He had explained that the first room he was directed to stay in was already occupied. He was embarrassed to have found another persons luggage when he walked in the room. He went downstairs to tell the clerks what happened and they gave him another set of keys for a new room... which was the key for the same hotel room I was in... which is why he knocked on my door. He said "I thought for sure I had seen you walk in this exact room before I got to my first room, and just had to knock on the door to double check I wasn't crazy before I went back downstairs." It took the third try for him to get keys for a room that was actually vacant. The clerk literally knocked on the door to a few rooms to confirm the room was available before providing him this key a third time.
This newly renovated property has all the perks of a nice place to stay, as well as beautiful scenery and friendly staff! I highly recommend this hotel!
I was worried to know that this mistake occurred twice in one stay and concerned that someone would walk into my room when I went out to dinner or when I was sleeping.
Country Inn & Suites could really use more parking. Of course, there 'may' have been a parking space for me, if some knucklehead wouldn't have taken up 2 spots with his/hers oversized, macho screaming truck. We had to park in a nearby construction site. Also, the desk staff did not seem to be particularly attentive. The breakfast was good though.
Good location. Close to Des Moines without actually being in the city, and right next to the interstate (but far enough that you can't hear the cars). Staff was very friendly and accommodating. I was running a marathon the next morning, so I was going to miss the free breakfast. The hotel staff started to set out breakfast an hour early for us runners. Finally, the room was nice. The only downside to my stay was that they never had cookies out.
