I've had good experiences here for mailing things, picking up packages and so on. The place is generally pretty busy so be prepared to wait. The staff is clearly a little worn from being busy but they've always put in the effort to find my mail and delivered solid service.
Was refused service. Went in to pick up a package that was supposed to be delivered tomorrow. Needed it to fix my vehicle. Tracking number put it at that post office. After I told the checker what I needed and that I had the tracking number, he got a bad attitude and asked me to step to the side for a minute. Went to helping other customers and ignored me for 15 minutes. After which I walked out.
We have to use to this post office multiple times a month for work purposes, employees are super friendly and helpful. The new post master seems to really enjoy his position and has made some great new changes! Highly recommend.
I've gotten a passport done here as well and the process was painless and quick (though I would strongly recommend getting an appointment).
If you can avoid this particular post office so it..I was definitely not impressed..I had 3 packages that were very heavy, and asked them if they had a cart I could put them on so I didn't have to make 3 trips to my car. The customer service Rep looked at me like I was crazy and said No we don't have anything like that here ..I said are you kidding me..He replied ummm NO I'm not ..I then said fine. I will do it myself..Now today u call them and ask for the tracking numbers for the packages and after 7 minutes on hold she comes back and says we don't have they information ..Once we close out for the day that information is no longer available..Unbelievable..Rediculous ..So now I will have no idea where my packages are till they are received. Ankeny Postal Service You Can do better then that..
They may be limited by their lack of process efficiency driven by a government-run business, but goodness, there is no effort to go above and beyond for the customer either. Had a package delivered by UPS to be out for distribution the next day via USPS and was trying to intercept in time for a birthday. Requested to pick up at USPS instead today and there was refusal because essentially there were too many packages. It was too hard for them, even though they had a tracking number. Sounds like some organization and tracking methodology could go a long ways for improving their internal processes. Getting birthday stuff a day late is not a big deal for us adults, but makes a world of difference for a little kid. Never had specific issues with this location otherwise besides lack of speed...although, no US post office I've been to has ever been FAST.
